A new approach...to an age old problem

Anchor 1

Back pain is a common problem and although rarely serious, can be severely limiting to your life, particularly when you experience radiating nerve pain.

It is confusing to know who to see about pain. It is especially daunting to make this decision if your problem is ongoing.

There is hopeful news...

Understanding how to help people with pain has developed a lot in recent years. Much research has explored what does and doesn't work for back pain. The results are mixed for most treatments, meaning methods such as manipulation, needling and massage seem to be limited in their effectiveness. Preferable is a clinician who provides a diagnosis, a plan, self-management advice and support.

This is what Hedd Piper at Clinig Corff Ystwyth provides.

Hedd is a dedicated clinician who has been helping people with pain in private practice since 2003.  By keeping up to date with developments in the world of pain care, he is able to bring to you an objective clinical opinion of what is causing your pain and what to do about it.  Since 2016, Hedd has favoured an approach described as Cognitive Functional Therapy.  This is a whole-person approach to pain and addresses any and all aspects of your health and life history that has led you to seeking help for pain.

CFT is a departure from the out-dated model of receiving only the type of treatment the therapist is trained in, regardless of whether it is appropriate for your condition or not.  CFT involves a collaboration between you and Hedd, rather than you receiving a treatment and hoping it helps.

It is important to be prepared when beginning CFT as we will explore a lot about you, your story and how the pain affects your life.  It is also important to be open to the idea of change and introduce new ways of looking at your situation.

CFT isn't just about talking, though.  It involves movement, education and taking action.  The aim of CFT is to put you in control of your back and your body.
